Life is not simple. Human beings are complicated; however, sometimes we do make things more complex than what is really needed. I’d like to argue that all of suffering outside of external forces (violence, starvation, etc.) is related to three areas of unmet needs: Spirituality, Occupation, and Relationships,
When these core areas are lacking in an individual, an internal mechanism is set to cause destructive behaviors. I’d go even further and say that people who are not lacking in these areas are able to weather external forces. It boils down to believing that you belong to something bigger than yourself, having a meaning through labor, and connection to other human beings who love you.
